Hisham Gabr is an internationally acclaimed conductor and composer, currently serving as Head of Arabic Programs and conductor at the Royal Opera House Muscat, and resident conductor of the Cairo Opera House. He is a defining artistic voice of contemporary Arab symphonic and operatic production, and the director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Arts Centre, one of the Middle East’s most influential cultural institutions.


Educated in Egypt, France, and the United States, Gabr further refined his artistic vision as a Fulbright Senior Grant recipient at Cornell University. He is a sought-after guest conductor, regularly invited by leading orchestras and opera houses across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.


Alongside his conducting career, Gabr is a highly regarded composer of large-scale works. His original opera Sindbad: The Omani Sailor, commissioned by the Royal Opera House Muscat, stands as a landmark contemporary Arab opera, celebrating Oman’s cultural heritage and premiering in the 2025/26 season. His music for film, theatre, and stage productions has been performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Opera House Muscat and Milano EXPO. In recognition of his outstanding cultural impact, he was awarded the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.
